People’s Faire
EVENT: The 2011 Las Vegas People’s Faire
DATE: Saturday, August 13-Sunday August 14, 2011
PLACE: Carnegie Library Park, 6th and National, Las Vegas, NM
TIME: 10 a.m. to 5 pm. (rain or shine)
SPONSOR: Las Vegas Arts Council
LVAC is in its 38th year of existence. In that time, it has sponsored literally hundreds of events and activities designed to showcase to our community and the many wonderful talents of our local artists and crafts persons. Our mission is simple: “to aid, encourage, advise and coordinate activities dedicated to the promotion of cultural arts in Las Vegas, New Mexico and surrounding communities.”
EVENT DESCRIPTION:
2011 is the 33rd annual People’s Faire. From its very beginnings, the Faire traditionally provides a congenial venue for artists and craftspeople from New Mexico and beyond to show and market their wares to a willing public. The Faire is open to all. There is no entrance fee required to browse among the many vendor booths. This year, between 50-75 arts, crafts and food vendors are expected, offering a wide array of arts and crafts items which will range from “high end” handmade jewelry, pottery, homemade jams and jellies, furniture and much more. All displayed items MUST be hand made. No commercially produced wares are allowed for sale at the Faire.
In addition, the Faire will feature a variety of local and regional performing artists throughout both days. Performances will include everything from mariachi musicians and traditional ethnic dances to pop and blues ensembles. For the last two years, the Arts Council has contracted with the local Casa De Cultura organization to provide the performers for the Faire. Usually, the Carnegie Library Auxiliary holds a book sale on the steps of the Library. Faire foods include everything from roasted turkey legs to kettle corn, hamburgers and hot dogs. Over the years, some folks like to eat a picnic under the trees while listening to music. Its a great way to spend a warm summer afternoon!
For information, contact the Arts Council at 505-425-1085 or email: lvac@cybermesa.com. The Arts Council’s website: lasvegasartscouncil.org is also available to provide additional information or food/arts/crafts applications, etc.
We hope to see you at the 2011 People’s Faire!
